A few key items to notice in our uniform guide that sometimes get missed:
- Pants: Khaki pants must be a dress pants style. If they have outside pockets it is usually a jean material and not the right type of pants. The pockets must be inside.
- Shoes: Students must wear solid black shoes (this includes soles, logos, and laces). These can be either dress shoes or tennis shoes.
- K-6 Girls Friday Dress: khaki pants or khaki skirts for girls are only allowed on Fridays. If wearing a white polo on Friday, a blue cardigan or vest must also be worn. However, if wearing a blue polo, the cardigan or vest is not required.
- Junior High – girls can wear either khaki or blue pants.

Back to School Night – August 18 5-7pm
All students are invited to come to the school and meet their teachers! Classroom assignments will be posted on this day. We will have a few used uniforms available to purchase, as well as information about volunteering, after school clubs, and ordering school lunches. Secondary students will receive their locker assignments and schedules.
This is a great chance to get involved – volunteer to help in the classroom, with FSO, or during Ambassador events!
7th Grade Orientation – August 18, 4pm, 7pm
All incoming 7th graders (and their parents) are invited to attend 7th grade orientation. We will tell you everything you need to know about transitioning to junior high! The first presentation will be at 4pm, and the same presentation will be given at 7pm for those who were not able to attend early.
First Day of School – August 20
The doors to the building will be unlocked at 7:30 am and school begins promptly at 8:00 am. The parking lot is reserved for kindergarten students and their families. All other families should go through the carpool line and drop students off on the curb. Parents should stay in their cars and allow our staff to assist your students. This keeps the line moving, and makes the first day flow as smoothly as possible. Please take pictures and give goodbye hugs and kisses BEFORE getting in the car.
Kindergarten – You are welcome to drop your kindergarten student on the curb. Let the staff member know that they are in kindergarten and they will be escorted to the kindergarten classroom. You may also park in the front or gravel parking lot and walk your student after 7:50am (after buses have unloaded). If you do not have other elementary or secondary students, we recommend you arrive at 8:05 am, park in the front, and escort them to class.
Spirit Wear – August 22
Our first spirit wear day will be August 22. This is optional, but students are allowed to wear an APA branded t-shirt on top. Regular uniform items on bottom.
Parent Orientation – August 26 6-8pm
This is for parents only and is a chance for you as parents to make a connection and get to know your teacher and how everything works. Elementary will run on 20 minute rotations with the first one starting at 6. You’ll want to come with enough time to attend one rotation per elementary student that you have. Secondary does faster rotations of about 10 minutes and you’ll need about an hour to visit all the teachers for your student.
Enrollment Changes
If your plans to return to APA Salem change, please let our registrar know as soon as possible – Mrs. Turco cturco@apamail.org. Most of our grades have waiting lists, and it gives these waiting families time to make their plans for next year.
Elementary Teacher Assignments
Teacher assignments will be posted at the teacher meet and greet on August 15 from 5-7pm. If you can’t make it to the meet and greet, watch for an email from Mrs. Barton by Monday August 19th.
Drop Off and Pick Up
We will be using two curbs this year – Yellow (back) and Blue (gravel parking lot). In general, if your youngest child is in K-2nd grade, the entire family will be assigned to the yellow curb. If your youngest child is in 3-9th grade, the entire family will be assigned to the blue curb.

LDS Early Morning Seminary Pick Up
9th graders who wish to enroll in LDS seminary can go to mySeminary.churchofjesuschrist.org
- Log in. Click on the student’s name.
- Click Register over at the right.
- Choose the location: Salem Senior High School
- After you finish registering, email Emily Johns, the seminary Administrative Assistant, at Jhbrandley@churchofjesuschrist.org to let her know that the student will be attending the early morning class.

Cross Country
We are getting ready for Cross Country to start right at the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year! Please follow this link to pre-register: https://forms.gle/vGZjYjNuug5wwYz56 Official registration will go out July 1st. Registration and fees will need to be submitted and paid by August 1st.
We need a minimum of 10 racers to qualify as a team. If we do not have the minimum number of racers by August 1st, all fees will be reimbursed, and we will not host cross country through the school.
- Fees: $50 total
- Registration fee: $20 – covers registration fee into the UCSSAL league
- Uniform fee: $30 – this will cover the cost of your XC t-shirt and racing uniform rental (it goes to a pool to purchase new uniforms as needed).
Pay the fees online, and you’ll be added to the team roster. It is recommended that you begin running now so that you are ready to push yourself in the fall! Race dates will go out at the first practice in the fall and transportation will be through parents. Practice will run 4 days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:15 – 3:50 (2:15 – 2:50 on Thursdays)It’s going to be an awesome season!

Staffing Update
We would like to welcome three new teachers to our elementary team.
6th Grade Teacher
Hi! My name is Hannah Davis, and I’m thrilled to be teaching sixth grade students in Salem this year. I grew up in both California and Utah and earned my degree from Southern Virginia University, where I had the opportunity to play soccer and lacrosse. Since graduating, I’ve taught fourth and sixth grade at American Preparatory Academy in Draper. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy working out, decorating our home, and spending time with my two daughters, who are 3 years old and 9 months. Sixth grade is such an important and pivotal year and I can’t wait to get started.
2nd Grade Teacher
My name is Taylor Jameson, and I’m so excited to be joining the APA family. I bring six years of experience in early childhood education, including a background in deaf education. Originally from Arizona, I recently moved to Payson, Utah, and I’m thrilled to be back in the state where I began my early childhood education journey at Utah Valley University. I’m passionate about helping young learners grow!
3rd Grade Teacher
My name is Breanne Petersen, and I am super excited to be the new third grade teacher. This will be my first year teaching third grade, but I previously taught second grade for two years in the Nebo School District and fourth grade for two years in the Alpine School District. I earned my bachelor’s degree from UVU. I love spending time outdoors—whether it’s hiking, canyoneering, or just relaxing in a hammock. I prefer savory foods over sweet ones, and I especially love popcorn and barbecue chips.
3rd Grade Teacher
Hi! My name is Sayde Swenson and I am so excited to be the new 3rd grade teacher this year! This will be my third year teaching. I have taught 2nd grade at Brookside Elementary and more recently I taught music to K-5 at Foothills Elementary. I graduated from UVU with a bachelors in elementary education. I’ve always lived in Utah, and I love it here. I love the mountains, camping, and fishing. I also like to travel and visit new places. I will be getting married this fall, and will soon be Mrs. Marrott.

Orientación de séptimo grado: 18 de agosto, 4 p. m. y 7 p. m.
Todos los alumnos que ingresan a 7.º grado (y sus padres) están invitados a la orientación de 7.º grado. ¡Les contaremos todo lo que necesitan saber sobre la transición a la secundaria! Primer día de clases – 20 de agosto
Las puertas del edificio se abrirán a las 7:30 a. m. y las clases comienzan puntualmente a las 8:00 a. m. El estacionamiento está reservado para los estudiantes de kínder y sus familias. Las demás familias deben pasar por la fila de vehículos compartidos y dejar a sus hijos en la acera. Los padres deben permanecer en sus autos y permitir que nuestro personal los ayude. Esto facilita el movimiento de la fila y facilita al máximo el primer día. Por favor, tomen fotos y despídanse con abrazos y besos ANTES de subir al auto.
Jardín de niños: Puede dejar a su hijo/a de jardín de niños en la acera. Informe al personal que está en jardín de niños y lo acompañará a su aula. También puede estacionarse en el estacionamiento delantero o de grava y acompañar a su hijo/a después de las 7:50 a. m. (después de que los autobuses hayan descargado). Si no tiene otros estudiantes de primaria o secundaria, le recomendamos llegar a las 8:05 a. m., estacionarse en el estacionamiento delantero y acompañarlo/a a clase.
Ropa deportiva – 22 de agosto
Nuestro primer día de ropa deportiva será el 22 de agosto. Es opcional, pero se permite usar una camiseta con el logo de APA encima. La ropa del uniforme en la parte inferior.
Orientación para padres – 26 de agosto, de 6 a 8 p. m.
Esto es solo para padres y les brinda la oportunidad de conectar, conocer a su maestro y cómo funciona todo. En primaria, las rotaciones son de 20 minutos, y la primera comienza a las 6. Les recomendamos venir con tiempo suficiente para asistir a una rotación por cada estudiante de primaria. En secundaria, las rotaciones son más rápidas, de unos 10 minutos, y necesitarán aproximadamente una hora para visitar a todos los maestros de su estudiante.
Cambios de inscripción

Maestra de sexto grado
¡Hola! Me llamo Hannah Davis y estoy encantada de dar clases a estudiantes de sexto grado en Salem este año. Crecí en California y Utah y me gradué de la Universidad del Sur de Virginia, donde tuve la oportunidad de jugar fútbol y lacrosse.
