8.21.24 Pick Up Changes
Hello Amazing Salem Parents,
We had a great first day today!
Our morning drop off finished in record time – at 8:02 am
- Please remember the gravel parking lot is for staff parking and bus unloading ONLY. If you need to come into the school, please park in front of the school and wait for the staff member to help you safely across the traffic.
- DO NOT drop off students in the front of the building.
Afternoon pick up was a learning experience for all! Two of our pickup locations worked well (yellow and blue) but one was very delayed (pink). We apologize to all our families assigned to pink – we saw the problem and are implementing the following changes to fix it:
- We are moving the PINK zone to be in front of the school. We have so many little students (kindergarteners) in this pick up, and we feel it will be much safer for them in front of the school.
- We are not changing your color or time, just the pick up location. Pink should now enter the driveway.
- We are moving the BLUE zone to be in the gravel parking lot. This pick up has a lot of secondary students, and should flow more quickly with students who can find their cars.
- We are not changing your color or time, just the pick up location. Blue should now enter the gravel parking lot.
- We will gather the BUS students and take attendance in the gym, and this will dramatically speed up the exit of the buses, allowing the pink zone to load sooner.
Thank you for your patience as we work out all the bugs in our system!
Some things YOU CAN DO to help drop off and pick up run more smoothly:
- DRIVE SLOWLY – 5 mph max
- NO CELL PHONES please
- Arrive on time, but NOT early
- Early pick ups – park in the gravel parking lot
- When exiting the driveway, RIGHT TURN ONLY
Here is the new map:
Welcome Back – Dismissal 3
Welcome Back!
We are so excited to have your students return tomorrow! We wanted to give a last-minute update and reminder about what to expect. Please remember to do the following:
- Follow directions of staff
- Be patient and kind
- Pay attention to your pick up time, because you will not be allowed on campus before that time
Morning Drop Off
- Hang or show your tag – we need to make sure everyone is ready for pick up in the afternoon!
- Everyone should “come in the exit” on Salem Canal Road. Stay to the right and drop off in the back of the school.
- Do not enter the gravel parking lot unless directed there by a staff member. That is used for bus drop off and staff parking only.
Early Pick up
During the first few days of school, it would be so helpful to avoid any early pick ups. However, if you must pick up your student early, please park in the gravel parking lot in the orange stalls. If you park near the school you may not be able to leave once cars start lining up.
Dismissal 3
- Arrive after 2:30 pm
- Students are dismissed at 2:35 pm and will be led to the proper curb
- Yellow
- Enter from Salem Canal Road, do not enter the gravel parking lot
- Yellow stay to the right, Pink stay to the left until you get to your curb
- Blue
- Enter the gravel parking lot, form 2 lines
- As soon as your student(s) are in the car, move toward the exit, forming 2 lines if needed

We anticipate higher than usual traffic on the first day of school, so we encourage you to either drop your student off with older siblings, or leave younger siblings at home so your full attention can be given to safely walking your student into the school.
All kindergarten students will be picked up from the gravel parking lot (PINK). You will be given a pink window sign on the first day. This will help us find the correct car quickly.
PM Kindergarten
All students will be dropped off in the gravel parking lot (PINK). Unless your students are picked up dismissal 3, we tried to assign all families with a kindergarten student to be picked up in the gravel parking lot (PINK).

Parent Orientation – August 27 6-8pm
This is for parents only and is a chance for you as parents to make a connection and get to know your teacher and how everything works. Secondary does faster rotations of about 10 minutes and you’ll need about an hour to visit all of the teachers for your student.
Construction Update
Elk Ridge Drive/Loafer Mountain Parkway will be available from the light to Salem Canal Road on August 20th! Salem Canal Road will be open and accessible from BOTH DIRECTIONS on August 20th! The construction crews have worked so hard to make this possible for us, and we are grateful!
You can approach from any of these directions on the first day of school, but the only entrance to the school is on Salem Canal Road.
Drop Off and Pick Up
You should receive an email with your pickup assignment, map, and specific instructions. Details can be found here: https://salem.americanprep.org/drop-off-pick-up/
First Day of School – Tips for a Smooth Start
The doors to the building will be unlocked at 7:30 am and school begins promptly at 8:00 am. The parking lot is reserved for kindergarten students and their families. All other families should go through the carpool line and drop students off on the curb. Parents should stay in their cars and allow our staff to assist your students. This keeps the line moving and makes the first day flow as smoothly as possible. Please take pictures and give goodbye hugs and kisses BEFORE getting in the car.

Drop Off
- Enter the driveway from Salem Canal Road
- DO NOT enter the parking lot – this will be used for BUSES ONLY in the morning
- Drive around the school and drop off on the east side
- If the curb is full, use the extra lanes to wait your turn
- Exit and turn right only – this will keep traffic flowing smoothly
Kindergarten Drop Off/Pick Up
Because there is no way to have cars turn around in the middle of the day, kindergarten pick up and drop off will be in the gravel parking lot.
Pick Up Times
Once the entrance on Elk Ridge Drive is available, we will make changes to our pick up, but until then we will do the following: With only one entry and exit, we can have a maximum of 100 cars on campus at any given time. To accommodate for this, we will have 3 (three) dismissal times:
- Dismissal 1 – 3:10 pm (these cars must arrive between 2:45 – 3:05 pm)
- Dismissal 2 – 3:20 pm (these cars must arrive between 3:20 – 3:30 pm)
- Dismissal 3 – 3:35 pm (these cars must arrive after 3:30 pm)
We have assigned some students to participate in Academic Extended Day based on their standardized test scores, grades, and teacher input. If Academic Extended Day will not work for your family, please request a different dismissal and provide an explanation.
We encourage any parent who is interested in Academic Extended Day to request the last dismissal and have your students participate! This makes afternoon pick up easier, and gives your student(s) extra time to work on homework or get assistance from their teacher(s). Everyone in your family and carpool must be assigned to the same dismissal.
Carpools
We encourage our families to create carpools – this will allow more students to be picked up during each dismissal. We are limited to 100 cars, but that could include up to 150 families if they are carpooling. If you have a carpool that will leave together EVERY DAY, include that information on the Google form. Both parties must request each other to be considered a valid carpool.
Pick Up Locations
We will also have 3 (three) pick up locations. These locations will be assigned to best meet the needs of our students.
- Back of school – Yellow
- Front of school – Pink (changed 8/22/24)
- Gravel parking lot – Blue (changed 8/22/24)

Entrega y recogida en Salem Otoño 2024
Dejar
