Welcome Back – Dismissal 3
Welcome Back!
We are so excited to have your students return tomorrow! We wanted to give a last-minute update and reminder about what to expect. Please remember to do the following:
- Follow directions of staff
- Be patient and kind
- Pay attention to your pick up time, because you will not be allowed on campus before that time
Morning Drop Off
- Hang or show your tag – we need to make sure everyone is ready for pick up in the afternoon!
- Everyone should “come in the exit” on Salem Canal Road. Stay to the right and drop off in the back of the school.
- Do not enter the gravel parking lot unless directed there by a staff member. That is used for bus drop off and staff parking only.
Early Pick up
During the first few days of school, it would be so helpful to avoid any early pick ups. However, if you must pick up your student early, please park in the gravel parking lot in the orange stalls. If you park near the school you may not be able to leave once cars start lining up.
Dismissal 3
- Arrive after 2:30 pm
- Students are dismissed at 2:35 pm and will be led to the proper curb
- Yellow
- Enter from Salem Canal Road, do not enter the gravel parking lot

All kindergarten students will be picked up from the gravel parking lot (PINK). You will be given a pink window sign on the first day. This will help us find the correct car quickly.
PM Kindergarten
All students will be dropped off in the gravel parking lot (PINK). Unless your students are picked up dismissal 3, we tried to assign all families with a kindergarten student to be picked up in the gravel parking lot (PINK).

Pick Up Assignment

Drop Off
- Enter the driveway from Salem Canal Road
- DO NOT enter the parking lot – this will be used for BUSES ONLY in the morning
- Drive around the school and drop off on the east side
- If the curb is full, use the extra lanes to wait your turn
- Exit and turn right only – this will keep traffic flowing smoothly
Kindergarten Drop Off/Pick Up
Because there is no way to have cars turn around in the middle of the day, kindergarten pick up and drop off will be in the gravel parking lot.
Pick Up Times
Once the entrance on Elk Ridge Drive is available, we will make changes to our pick up, but until then we will do the following: With only one entry and exit, we can have a maximum of 100 cars on campus at any given time. To accommodate for this, we will have 3 (three) dismissal times:
- Dismissal 1 – 3:10 pm (these cars must arrive between 2:45 – 3:05 pm)
- Dismissal 2 – 3:20 pm (these cars must arrive between 3:20 – 3:30 pm)
- Dismissal 3 – 3:35 pm (these cars must arrive after 3:30 pm)
We have assigned some students to participate in Academic Extended Day based on their standardized test scores, grades, and teacher input. If Academic Extended Day will not work for your family, please request a different dismissal and provide an explanation.
We encourage any parent who is interested in Academic Extended Day to request the last dismissal and have your students participate! This makes afternoon pick up easier, and gives your student(s) extra time to work on homework or get assistance from their teacher(s). Everyone in your family and carpool must be assigned to the same dismissal.
Carpools
We encourage our families to create carpools – this will allow more students to be picked up during each dismissal. We are limited to 100 cars, but that could include up to 150 families if they are carpooling. If you have a carpool that will leave together EVERY DAY, include that information on the Google form. Both parties must request each other to be considered a valid carpool.
Pick Up Locations
We will also have 3 (three) pick up locations. These locations will be assigned to best meet the needs of our students.
- Back of school – Yellow
- Front of school – Pink (changed 8/22/24)
- Gravel parking lot – Blue (changed 8/22/24)

Entrega y recogida en Salem Otoño 2024
Dejar

We are excited to welcome and get to know the following staff members:
Loys Hamilton – Science Teacher
A product of Florida, Mr. Hamilton enjoys life with its joy, struggles, and opportunities. He is a person of faith, and first and foremost a family man. He and his wife have raised 5 daughters and 7 sons along with many non-biological offspring that are considered family members. A few of his hobbies are reading (particularly science fiction/fantasy), gardening, woodworking, hiking, and swimming. He happens to be an avid Tolkien fan and enjoys collecting memorabilia associated with Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
With a Master’s in Education and a pre-med Bachelor’s degree, he loves science and what it has revealed about the world and universe in which we live. He is enthusiastic about helping others appreciate and value the knowledge that science has brought out of obscurity. As a science advocate, he has a varied background that includes working as a science teacher for 10 years, a haul truck driver for Kennecott Mine, 20 years as a safety professional with the now-retired Space Shuttle Program, and 7 years in the U.S. Army as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) officer.
As a teacher, he desires to inspire youth to explore the wonders of the world in which we live, gain an understanding of scientific principles and concepts, and learn how to apply them in their lives. His first action in the classroom is to connect, build rapport, and embrace the collective life experiences of all the students within his care. He is a hands-on teacher who uses multi-modal means to deliver and engage students in the classroom. Teaching is one of his greatest passions.
Sherelda Crippen – Choir, Elementary Music

I have an associate’s degree in Business Administration from Fullerton College and a bachelor’s degree in English from BYU- Hawaii.
Music has always been an integral part of my life. I enjoy performing and composing and have taught privately for several years. I am thrilled to be teaching music at APA this year. I have been part of APA as a parent and as an Instructor. I love our students and look forward to learning together.
Yulia Tanner Rugg – Math Teacher
I’m very excited to teach math on the secondary side. This is my fourth year at APA and I absolutely love working here. I’m originally from Russia, I moved to the United States ten years ago. I have a master’s degree in management and I am currently working on my bachelor of science, mathematics education from Western Governors University. I can’t wait to get to know you and your children.

I will be a classroom instructor, and I’m super excited to help the students!
Kadey Stoker – Classroom Instructor
My name is Kady Stoker and I’m thrilled to be an instructor at APA this year. I grew up in Western Nebraska surrounded by corn and cows. I really enjoy acting, reading, and going camping with my family. I’m often confused with Taylor Swift. This is probably because of how much I rock in the classroom. I can’t wait to get to know all of you this school year!
Courtney Pierce – Groups Instructor
I’m Courtney Pierce. I am entering my first year as a group instructor. I graduated from Snow College with my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. I’ve been married 24 years and have five daughters.

Loys Hamilton – Ciencia Maestro
